The Allegation

RAN's report "Orangutan Capital Under Siege" alleged that PT Global Sawit Semesta (GSS) purchased fruit from illegal plantations.

Timeline

  1. 10 Nov 2024

Permata received report from RAN publication titled "Orangutan Capital Under Siege" that our supplier PT. Global Sawit Semesta (GSS) is buying fruits from illegal plantations. Permata would like to clarify that PT Global Sawit Semesta does not supply Permata directly. Instead, it enters our supply chain indirectly through our third-party refinery, PT Able Commodities. Permata has informed its third-party refinery, PT Able Commodities Indonesia, about this issue and has requested them to engage with PT Global Sawit Semesta, which supplies them directly. We are currently awaiting the outcome of PT Able Commodities Indonesia's engagement with PT Global Sawit Semesta.

  2. 4 Dec 2024

Following our Engagement with PT Able Commodities Indonesia, we are informed that PT Able Commodities Sourced indirectly from PT Global Sawit Semesta via Apical Group (Sari Dumai Sejati). As of December 2024, Apical has suspended PT Global Sawit Semesta from their Supply Chain. And thus following Apical Decision, Permata Group's and Able Commodities Indonesia supply chain is free from PT Global Sawit Semesta. Permata Group has also placed PT Global Sawit Semesta on its suspension list and requires them to follow our re-entry procedures for any future collaborations.

Current Status / Resolution

Based on the findings and response above, we consider this case closed. Following this, Permata Group has also placed PT Global Sawit Semesta on its suspension list.
